During this time, many young men took the opportunity to travel the nation by train and look for work. These men were called "Hobos". However, many issues arose for these men along the way and to help each other out they created symbols they would mark on fences or walls to warn others about dangers in the area, or tell them the shop or house they are at could be a place of help.
