It consists of 3 steps: Glycolysis, Krebs cycle, and Electron Transport Chain.Anaerobic respiration occurs when there is a shortage of oxygen. Anaerobic respiration breaks down glucose without oxygen. Anaerobic respiration generates small amount of ATP energy. There are 2 ways of breaking down sugar without oxygen: lactic acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation. Lactic acid fermentation is carried out by animals and bacteria. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out by fungus.
