There is no water in the desert. There's almost no shelter in the desert. Some deserts are made by a rain shadow. The mountains catch all the moisture so the air reaching the other side is dry. Deserts can be 107 degrees Fahrenheit. A horned lizards spikes protect it from getting eaten. Desert animals have big ears to help them stay cool. For example, a jackrabbit's ears help it stay cool. Desert animals come out at night. They wait for the sun to go down. It can get down to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The animals wait until it rains so they can enjoy the desert plants. The desert doesn't get rain very often so when it does, the plants absorb it and feed the animals. A Peccary is a desert relative of a pig. Some cactus are juicy on the inside and waxy from the outside and the wax stuff keeps the water in the cactus. Everything has adaptations to help cope with desert life.
