Reactants C6H12O6 (glucose) O2 (Oxygen) Products Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Water (H20) ATP Complete the paragraph by selecting the correct word or number to make each statement correct. The process of cellular respiration breaks down glucose to release energy. The purpose of cellular respiration is to convert glucose into ATP. The process begins when glucose is broken down through a process called glycolysis which takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell. This process is anaerobic because it does not require oxygen. During glycolysis the following molecules are produced: two pyruvates and 2 ATP molecules. The second step in the process is called the Krebs Cycle. This takes place in the matrix of the mitochondria. The products from the Krebs Cycle include the release of the gas carbon dioxide, 2 energy molecules called ATP, and NADH and FADH that are both needed to go to step three. Step three is when oxygen enters the electron transport chain which produces water. Since steps Krebs and ETC require oxygen, they are considered aerobic steps. The electron transport chain also produces the greatest amount of energy because it gives off 32-34 ATP molecules. At the end of cellular respiration, there will be a total of between 36-38 ATP molecules. Sort the processes and the items produced into the location where they happen.
