Who was Paul to begin with? Read Acts 7:54-60. His name was Saul.At the stoning of Stephen they laid their clothes at the feet of Saul. This meant that he (agreed or disagreed) agreed with what they were doing. What was the first assignment that we know about?Read Acts 9:1 and 2. He was to go to Damascus and find men and women who belonged to the Way and take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. What happened along the way?Read Acts 9:3-19. There was a flash of light and he fell to the ground. He heard a voice say to him, "Why do you persecute me?" Saul answered, "Who are you?" Then the voice said, "I am Jesus whom you are persecuting." Then he told Saul to go into the city. Saul got up, but when he opened his eyes he was blind. The men traveling with Saul saw and heard nothing. They led Saul into the city of Damascus. He didn't eat for three days. Then the Lord sent Ananias to talk to Saul. Ananias told Saul about Jesus. Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. Saul got up and was baptized. He spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. What happened as a result of his change?Read Acts 9:20-30. He began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. The people who heard him were confused and said, " Isn't this the man who was sent here to take followers of Jesus as prisoners?" But Saul grew more and more powerful and amazed the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Promised One. After many days had gone by a group of Jews plotted to kill Saul and kept a watch for him day and night at the city gates so that they could kill him. But Saul found out about their plans. His new friends, the followers of Jesus, lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall so that he could escape. He went to Jerusalem and tried to join the disciples there, but they were all afraid of him and didn't believe that he really was a disciple of Jesus now. A man by the name of Barnabas became Saul's friend. Barnabas took him to the disciples and told them Saul's story and encouraged them to let Saul be with them. So Saul stayed with the disciples and went freely in Jerusalem speaking boldly about Jesus. What was Saul called after that?Read Acts 13:9. Saul was called Paul.
