General expectations for student in this class:Be an independent worker and self-starterMeet your deadlines for library tasks and assignments by managing your timeCommunicate regularly with the librarian about problems or questionsAlways be professional when working with or providing service to students and facultyBe discreet and respectful of library users’ privacy, including their circulation records (what they read is nobody else’s business), their passwords, etc. Tardiness: At the beginning of the assigned class period, either be inside the library when the bell sounds or provide a pass from another teacher excusing your tardiness. The librarians will follow the tardy policies described in Northrop’s student expectations.Personal Devices: If asked by one of the librarians to put a personal device away in order to focus on an academic task or because they would like you to assist with a maintenance task for the library, please comply and in a respectful manner.Food and beverages: According to the school rules, you should not have food or beverages other than a water bottle in academic areas. Please model good digital behavior by keeping water bottles away from computers and other electronic equipment.Respecting privacy: You will have limited access to information about other students or teachers while working in the library. This is private information. None of it is sensitive, but treat the information with respect and discretion. An individual’s checkout history should never be discussed with others. A frequent question from students is who has a particular book already checked out – this is not permissible to give out either. Overdue information and notices are also private. These issues should only be discussed with the librarian when you have a question and no one else. Schoology (LMS)Students participating in the class will use Schoology on a daily basis to communicate with the librarian and classmates, to upload and submit most assignments, and to access all materials for this class. Students will have the option to sign up for notifications and messages from Schoology to be sent to their phones. Students need to check their messages in Schoology daily, as you may have a message specific to you there. You will submit some of your assignments by uploading them in Schoology. Upcoming due dates are displayed in Schoology as well. AssignmentsImmediately below are some overviews and expectations for some of the assignments. In some cases, more detailed instructions, including grading rubrics, are available on Schoology. Due dates are subject to change due to weather or particularly busy periods in the library. It is up to you to submit assignments by the due date specified. Grades for assignments that are Checks for Understanding at the end of a lesson or Mastery Checks at the end of the whole unit will be deducted by a letter grade for every day that they are late until they reach a D. I will follow the make-up guidelines for FWCS as specified in the student rights and responsibilities for absent work. Other assignments are not counted late until the unit is over, at which point they will no longer be accepted. Please feel free to work ahead wherever possible.
