Master fractions! Learn types, compare with cross-multiplication, and understand their link to division.

Watch this video as a review to fractions. In this video he dives a little deeper and begins to add fractions with like denominators, something you learned in 3rd grade. In this video he discusses how fractions are connected to division. We have talked about division before and yes the order does matter when you divide. In this video he discusses different types of fractions and you will need to know them in 4th grade and in the older grades. In 3rd grade you called improper fractions greater than one fractions. They're the same thing because improper fractions are greater than one. In this video he discusses how to compare fractions. He mentions cross multiplying as one strategy. Cross multiplying has a couple of other names, you might have heard it called the butterfly method or bottoms-up; they are the same method. The second way he discuses dividing the fractions and converting them into decimals by using a calculator; remember you are not allowed to use calculators until 6th grade. You will be working on converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions, but you will not get to use a calculator, so if I was in 4th grade I would use the cross multiplying method way to compare fractions. A lot of individuals think fractions are hard because they are used to working with whole numbers, but if you stop, think, and know your facts it won't be as hard. What is the hardest part for you to understand with fractions? Be specific in your explanation and don't forget your FCAs.
