During the night, Billy gets nervous, because he hears two SCREECH owl hoots. Billy explains to the reader that if you hear more than one SCREECH owl hoot, it’s BAD luck. The next day, they arrive at the campsite for the Championship COON Hunt. Billy learns that there is going to be a BEAUTY contest before the hunt. Billy decides to enter LITTLE ANN and uses Grandpa’s nice HAIRBRUSH coated in homemade butter to make their fur coat glisten. Billy wins and is given a SILVER cup as a reward. That evening, the judge calls the hunters over to explain the rules. During the preliminary round, each night, 3 sets of hounds will go out and a judge will follow.. The hunters draw LOTS to decide who hunts when. Billy draws for the 3rd night. The first night, a hunter catches 3 coons, and it is decided that all hunters must tie his number to advance to the finals.
