Understanding how to use them correctly ensures accurate results in experiments and tests. By avoiding common mistakes, scientists can make reliable discoveries that impact various fields. Read more about them in the space below:Structure:A micropipette consists of a slender tube, a plunger, a tip, and a volume adjustment dial.Function: The plunger creates a vacuum that draws liquid into the tip when pressed and released. The volume adjustment dial allows users to set the desired amount of liquid to transfer. Steps on How to Use a Micropipette When looking at the various levels for the plunger at the top of the micropipette make notes of the various levels it moves through: the color blue is 'release', green is the first stop, and red is the second stop. Select the Appropriate Micropipette: Choose a micropipette based on the volume of liquid you need to handle.Adjust the Volume:Turn the volume adjustment dial until the desired volume is displayed in the window. Typically, Mrs. Reigel will do this for you as each micropipette looks a bit different.Attach a Tip:Firmly press a disposable tip onto the end of the micropipette.Draw Up the Liquid:Press the plunger down to the first stop.Place the tip into the liquid and slowly release the plunger to draw liquid into the tip.Dispense the Liquid:Move the micropipette to the desired container.Slowlypress the plunger down to the second stop to release the liquid completely.Eject the Tip:Press the tip ejector button to dispose of the used tip safely.Mrs. Reigel will tell you when to discard your tip.
