Greatest Common Factor
What is a greatest common factor (GCF) and how do we find it? A greatest common factor is the highest number that divides exactly into two or more numbers. For example, if we have the numbers 12 and 18, the highest number that divides exactly into these two numbers would be 6. We can write it like this to help us visualize it:12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 1218: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18Let's focus on the number 12. Notice that each pair of numbers that are multiplied together are the same color: (1 x 12=12), (2 x 6=12), and (3 x 4=12). If you look at both lists of numbers, the number 6 is thehighest number in both of the lists. That means that 6 is our great common factor of the numbers 12 and 18. Fill in the blanks with the correct numbers. 18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 1845: 1, 3, 5, 9, 15, 4530: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 3036: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36 Using the lists provided, fill in the blanks with the greatest common factor for each pair of numbers. 21: 1, 3, 7, 2128: 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 28Greatest Common Factor: 78: 1, 2, 4, 824: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24Greatest Common Factor: 8 You try it!
