Master Empathize & Define steps in Design Thinking with this 8th-grade worksheet!

Instructions Complete each step below to interview your user, observe them, create an empathy map, and develop a problem statement. Part 1: User Interview Set up a time to meet with your end-user, or send them an email with a list of questions. Fill in their responses below!Your goal is to learn as much detail about your end-user as possible, and to identify possible challenges they might face. Question 1: Who are you, and how are you associated with education? Question 2: Tell me about your experiences with education? Question 3: What are the biggest challenges you have faced with social distancing and education? Question 4: What are your favorite parts of education? Question 5: What is your favorite educational technology, and why? Question 6: If you could design an educational technology to help students have virtual, meaningful experiences, what would it be like? Notes: Write down any other thoughts, comments, or questions that come up during the interview. Part 2: Observe your End-User Set up a time to observe your end-user in an educational setting. If they are a teacher, watch them teach a lesson (online, most likely)! If they are a student, observe them on a video lesson or have them record a video of them working on homework. If they are an artist or work at a museum, ask them to record a video of some of the tasks they usually do.Record your observations in the spaces below. Observation 1: What is your end-user doing? Observe and write down the following information:-How does your end-user act?-What tasks are they doing?-What technology are they using?-Do they accomplish tasks in a certain order? Observation 2: Tools and Tricks Observe and write down the following information:-What kinds of tools or technology does your end-user use?-What are there favorite tools "tricks" or clever techniques do they use?-What tasks do they enjoy doing? Observation 3: Challenges Observe and write dow the following information:-What tasks are challenging for your end-user?-When does your end-user become frustrated or annoyed?-Are there any tasks that could be made easier? Part 3: Create an Empathy Map Use the information from your interview and observation to fill in the empathy map below! Try to add 3-4 items in each category. Here is an example to remind you how empathy maps work: Empathy Map Part 4: Define the Problem Based on your interview, observation, and empathy map, what problems or challenges does your end-use face? Create your own problem statement below! List: Wants, Needs, and Challenges List ALL of your user's wants, needs, and challenges related to educational experiences. Create your problem statement Choose the most important wants, needs, and challenges from your list and focus on a problem to solve. Here is an example of a problem statement:I need to create a (product) out of (materials) so that (user) can (action).I need to create a spaceship out of strong materials so the astronaut can go to the moon.Write your own problem statement below. Your problem statement should look something like:I need to create a _ using CoSpaces so that _ can _. Great work! You're done with the first two steps in the design thinking process. Remember to click "Hand in Work" and finish the rest of the mission.
