Now that you understand simple and complex sentences, please read about complex and compound-complex sentences in the chart below:A complex sentence is composed of one independent clause and one subordinate clause joined by a subordinate conjunction.These are some common subordinating conjunctions:Acompound-complex sentence is the most complicated type of sentence. It is composed of one or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clause connected by a coordinating conjunction. You may remember that coordinating conjunctions also connect clauses in acompound sentence. Identify each sentence presented below: simple The new student arrived to school early. My grandfather and I love to play chess. His sister walks dogs and grooms cats. Macy loves pandas. Aneesha likes Riverdale. compound I love the smell of the ocean, for it reminds me of my childhood. Mindy is going to surf camp this summer, and she will go to ski camp in the winter. I really want to go on a cruise in the Caribbean, but I get really sick on boats. You can drive across the country in a few days, or you can fly across the country in six hours. Eric wants to know how to speak Spanish, so he is going to spend a semester living in Argentina.
