Past Simple/Past Progressive

Fill in the blank spaces with the correct form of the verbs. (past simple progressive) Avi and the LionI met Avi in the street yesterday and he told (tell) me a story that was hard to believe. The trouble is that Avi is always telling me about strange things that happen to him. I never know whether to believe him or not. After a while, the lion seemed to forget about him, but when Avi started (start) to call for help, the lion heard(hear) him again trying to reach Avi. To make matters worse, it was getting (get) darker and darker. Avi was (be) afraid. He didn't want to spend the night up a tree with a lion walking around below him. After about two hours, he heard (hear) sirens and cars outside the park. The lion heard the noises too and started walking towards the sounds. Avi didn't know this, because by this time it was completely dark. Avi waited (wait) in the tree all night, not daring to come down till the morning, when he realized (realize) that the lion was no longer waiting (wait). Then he ran (run) out of the park as quickly as he could (can).
