She caught polio as a child, and when she was 18 years old, she was in a terrible accident when a bus crashed into a tram. She had previously wanted to study medicine but after the accident she decided to paint instead. Frida started work on this painting in 1949 , but never finished it. She died in 1954 at the age of 47.
